In an effort to bolster economic ties, India’s Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal recently engaged in separate meetings with Finland’s Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Riikka Purra, as well as Minister of Economic Affairs Sakari Puisto. These discussions aimed at enhancing trade and investment relations between the two nations.
The conversations centered on extending cooperation in crucial areas such as digitalisation, innovation, and research and development. Additionally, there was a significant emphasis on fostering partnerships in startups and business ventures. Both sides expressed a keen interest in exploring collaborative opportunities in burgeoning fields like artificial intelligence, 6G, quantum technologies, semiconductors, space exploration, and sustainability initiatives.
A prominent topic during these meetings was the proposed India-European Union Free Trade Agreement (FTA). Representatives from both countries deliberated on how this agreement could potentially enhance bilateral trade, draw in substantial investments, and open up new avenues for business growth.
The timing of these discussions is crucial as India and the European Union are actively engaged in negotiations over a comprehensive trade agreement. The goal of this agreement is to fortify economic relations and amplify collaboration across various strategic sectors.
