The Indian government is actively engaging with US authorities to address issues stemming from recently revised American visa regulations that may impact Indian students and academic professionals. During a press briefing on Friday, Randhir Jaiswal, spokesperson for India’s External Affairs Ministry, stated that the government is vigilantly observing the developments and intends to continually engage with Washington to resolve any difficulties encountered by Indian nationals.
The alterations made by the US Department of Homeland Security introduce more stringent residency requirements for individuals holding F, J, and I category visas, which include international students, exchange visitors, and media professionals. These changes establish fixed periods of stay for non-immigrant visa holders, replacing the previous system that permitted extended stays in the United States without ongoing federal scrutiny.
Significantly, the revised regulations also shorten the grace period available to F visa holders upon completing their studies. Instead of the former allowance of 60 days, students will now have only 30 days to either leave the United States, transfer to another educational institution, or adjust their immigration status.
Indian authorities have highlighted that while visa and immigration policies fall under the jurisdiction of sovereign nations, they remain committed to assisting Indian citizens and working to alleviate any challenges posed by the new rules. The government has reiterated its dedication to ensuring minimal disruption for its nationals in light of these updated regulations.
