Swedish company Opsio, specializing in cloud and artificial intelligence, has debuted its new automated visual inspection service, PrismIQ, aimed at assisting manufacturers in identifying production defects in real time. The initial launch of this technology is in India, with plans for a broader international release. PrismIQ utilizes a combination of industrial cameras and deep-learning models specifically trained on the products of individual manufacturers. This system is adept at detecting various issues such as surface defects, cracks, contamination, dimensional discrepancies, and assembly errors during production.
The inspection system operates using edge hardware installed directly on production lines, which enables quick processing of inspection results without the sole reliance on manual checks. Furthermore, data from PrismIQ can be integrated with existing PLC and SCADA systems to facilitate automated sorting and decision-making processes on the production line. Opsio highlights that the platform is designed to overcome the challenges of manual inspection, especially on high-speed manufacturing lines where it is difficult to check every individual product. The system’s active-learning capability allows it to enhance its detection models over time using production data.
PrismIQ is marketed as an end-to-end service, unlike standalone vision software. Opsio takes care of various aspects including camera, lens, and lighting configurations, model development and validation, integration with factory systems, and ongoing operations. The service package also offers operator training, quality dashboards, and regular performance reviews. According to Opsio, a typical deployment can move from a feasibility assessment to full production within eight to 12 weeks.
The choice to launch the service initially in India is attributed to the country’s rapidly growing manufacturing sector and Opsio’s established presence in the region. The company runs an AI Lab in Bengaluru, which focuses on developing and testing artificial intelligence solutions for industrial applications. The technology itself is developed at Opsio’s headquarters in Karlstad, Sweden. PrismIQ is currently available to manufacturers in the automotive, electronics, food and beverage, and pharmaceutical sectors. The process begins with a feasibility study and a proof-of-concept using the manufacturer’s specific product samples.
