Google has extended its Gemini in Chrome artificial intelligence features to Android users in India, enhancing the Chrome browser with AI-powered capabilities. This update allows users to perform a variety of web-based tasks, such as summarizing webpages, connecting information across Google services, and generating images directly within the browser.
The Gemini in Chrome feature is designed to function as an AI assistant, offering tools like webpage summaries and integrations with services such as Gmail and Calendar. Additionally, Google is rolling out a more advanced auto-browse feature for both desktop and Android devices, specifically for Google AI Pro and Google AI Ultra subscribers in India.
This auto-browse capability empowers Gemini to navigate websites and complete certain tasks on behalf of users. The AI can manage multi-step web activities that typically require users to interact with numerous webpages and perform multiple actions themselves. Tasks like comparing products, finding deals, booking event tickets, making restaurant reservations, and scheduling appointments can be seamlessly handled by the AI.
Given the potential for AI systems to directly interact with websites, Google has implemented safeguards to mitigate risks. Gemini can identify threats such as prompt-injection attempts, and it may prompt users to confirm sensitive actions before they are executed. These measures are crucial when the AI can make changes or conduct transactions on a user’s behalf.
The availability of the auto-browse feature is contingent on the user’s Google AI subscription. Google AI Pro subscribers can perform up to 20 multi-step requests per day, while Google AI Ultra subscribers are allowed up to 200 requests daily. This expansion marks a significant step in bringing more agentic AI capabilities into the Chrome browser, moving beyond simple AI inquiries to performing comprehensive tasks across the web.
