On the 60th anniversary of the founding of Shiv Sena, Uddhav Thackeray expressed his readiness to resign as party president if the party workers doubted his leadership capabilities. While addressing the gathering in Mumbai, Thackeray conveyed his openness to the emergence of a new leader from within the party but emphasized his determination to prevent the organization from falling into what he termed as the hands of traitors. This declaration comes amidst intensifying speculation about a potential split within Shiv Sena (UBT), fueled by reports suggesting that several party Members of Parliament might be considering shifting their allegiance to Eknath Shinde’s faction.

Thackeray’s comments were accompanied by an apology to voters who had supported candidates under his leadership, as he voiced his disappointment over the rumored defections. The political landscape within Shiv Sena (UBT) appears to be shifting, with Thackeray’s leadership facing challenges from within. His statements seemed aimed at reassuring loyalists while acknowledging the internal unrest that has captured public attention.

In a pointed critique of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Thackeray accused it of working to weaken and dismantle Shiv Sena. He argued that India was veering towards a political system dominated by one party, suggesting that the BJP’s actions were part of a broader strategy to consolidate power. Thackeray’s remarks reflect the ongoing tensions and rivalry between Shiv Sena and the BJP, a dynamic that’s been central to Maharashtra’s political scene.

Thackeray also touched upon Shiv Sena’s historical rivalry with the Congress, noting that despite the long-standing competition, Congress had never tried to eliminate his party. While he acknowledged this aspect of their relationship, he firmly ruled out any possibility of merging with Congress, reiterating Shiv Sena’s commitment to representing Marathi interests. This statement underscores the party’s foundational ethos and its focus on regional identity amidst the evolving political alliances in India.
