The Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Trust has recently seen the departure of two key members, General Secretary Champat Rai and trustee Anil Mishra, amid allegations of misuse of donations intended for the construction of the Ram Mandir. Their resignations were approved by the trust’s treasurer, Govind Giri, who stated that the decision adhered to the trust’s governing guidelines. Champat Rai’s significant role and contributions since the trust’s formation were acknowledged during the announcement.
These resignations occur in the context of accusations of financial discrepancies during the tallying of funds donated for the temple’s construction. Pankaj Jaiswal, a senior member of the trust, expressed deep dismay over the situation, characterizing it as both distressing and disgraceful. He emphasized the gravity of any misappropriation involving the offerings from devotees, underscoring that such actions are entirely unacceptable.
In response to the vacancies left by the resignations, Krisha Mohan has been appointed as the interim General Secretary, while Govind Giri will continue his duties as treasurer. The trust remains focused on maintaining integrity and accountability, as officials have confirmed a meeting scheduled for July 22. By this date, the Special Investigation Team (SIT) is anticipated to present its conclusive report on the matter.
Govind Giri has made it clear that the trust is committed to upholding justice and will not shield any individuals implicated in wrongdoing. He stated unequivocally that all those found guilty must face the legal consequences, irrespective of their positions within the trust. Currently, eight individuals have been detained in connection to the alleged theft of donations, and the investigation is still in progress.
